Gasp
by Stephanie Kapinos
Gasp
Heavy air for heavy hearts
Perhaps some helium would help
Float me through these dreary storms
Lear proclaimed madness.
Lead balloons in a liquid sky
Sinking to the top
Gasp for a breath just out of reach;
Lungs’ bronchial fingers
Too feeble to grab.
Blue lips bragging to a gray sky
Brighten. Each second. A fatal
High.
